I walked up to the sanctuary last night. It had been transformed. The dark wooden pulpit and oversized wooden chairs were all moved out. In place of these gorgeous and piously decorated articles were beach balls, camping chairs, board games, and an array of items. The Sanctuary looked as if the teens were laying siege to host a hostile take over
The reality is that they are in some sense doing just that. We are giving them a majority of Sunday’s worship service and they have made the sanctuary into their youth room. It is refreshing to see a church willing to let the teens move in and transform the Sanctuary.
I look forward to seeing how they worship, and letting them show everyone, of all ages, their passion to worship. I think worship should be intergenerational, and that means learning to love one another’s music and worship styles. It is all for the glory of God and that is the focus we must have.
